Breaking News re: Mr. Manager

The town just sent out an email with an agenda for a special town council meeting this coming Monday; it reads as follows:

BRUNSWICK TOWN COUNCIL

Morrell Meeting Room, Curtis Memorial Library

23 Pleasant Street

Roll Call

Executive session – Personnel matter regarding the Town Manager’s severance and release agreement per 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(A)

Action may or may not occur.

Please Note: The Town Council will hold a workshop to discuss proposals from consultants to assist the council in hiring a new Town Manager

Here’s the link if you want it ‘for your own.’

Goodness knows Side isn’t a lawyer.  We’re worse – an engineer.  Engineers are genetically pre-wired to see things logically and systematically, and governance does not lend itself to these forms of order.

None-the-less, we believe this passage in the same Section 405, Item 2 is generally taken to mean that votes (“final approval of an action”) cannot be taken in Executive session.

2. Final approval of certain items prohibited.  An ordinance, order, rule, resolution, regulation, contract, appointment or other official action may not be finally approved at an executive session.

Not only is Side an engineer, but we don’t have any cinnamon trees at our offices.  That doesn’t prevent little birds from stopping by from time to time, singing little ditties.

As one did just a little while ago.   We’re not sure if we decoded all the tweet-tweets correctly, but we thought the bird said Mr. Manager might be saying TTFN sooner than expected.

And that reference to consultant proposals?  Who knows; it could just be that the end result is “we don’t need no stinkin’ consultant.”

We shall see, shant we.

All in ‘due time,’ which is the time zone Side resigns in.
