The Government is coming to help us…again

 

            

We just learned that the Maine Legislature, in the persons of the Taxation Committee, is having a hearing at 10 am today on a draft concept for a bill that would appear to propose a statewide property tax.  This was tried in the 1970’s, and led to a statewide revolt to repeal it.

An Act To Redesign Maine's School Funding Model

CONCEPT DRAFT SUMMARY

This bill is a concept draft pursuant to Joint Rule 208.

This bill proposes a redesign of Maine's school funding formula to achieve equal educational opportunity for Maine students and statewide equity in property tax burden.
